It’s news to me: Who to trust?

“For the first time in recent years, voters trust Republicans more than Democrats on all 10 key electoral issues regularly tracked by Rasmussen Reports. The GOP holds double-digit advantages on five of them,” Rasmussen reported today, 10-24-09.

The polling organization asked this question: “I’m going to read you a short list of issues in the news. For each, please let me know which political party you trust more to handle that issue.” Responses were:

44% of American voters favor the healthcare reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. That’s little changed from a week ago, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
— 50% are opposed to the plan.
— 23% Strongly Favor the legislative effort.
— 39% are Strongly Opposed.

Oct 5 – Oct 13, 2009 – Healthcare - 80% of all Americans polled by the Gallup organization in Sept. 2009 are satisfied with the quality of medical care they receive.

— 85% with health insurance are broadly satisfied with the quality of medical care they receive

— 61% are satisfied with the cost of their medical care, while 38% say affordability is the biggest US healthcare problem.

Aug 31 – Oct 5, 2009 — After vacation — Congress returns from vacation on Sept. 8 and Democrats have vowed to pass some form of the health care legislation. That may be tough.

— 87% of Republican voters oppose the current legislation, including 74% who “Strongly Oppose” it, says a Rasmussen poll [8-27-29].
— 55% of Independent voters oppose the legislation, including 47% who “Strongly Oppose” it.
— 75% of Democrat voters support the plan, including 48% who “Strongly Favor” it.
— A mere 22% of voters believe Congress has a good understanding of the health care legislation.

Aug 17 – 31, 2009No Dem health — 54% of US voters say passing no healthcare reform this year would be better than passing the bill currently in Congress; 35% say passage of the Congressional bill would be better than nothing, reports a new Rasmussen national telephone survey [8-17-09].

“This does not mean that most voters are opposed to healthcare reform,” but it shows concern with the specific proposals now offered by Congressional Democrats, Rasmussen noted.

There’s a large political divide: 60% of Democrats favor; 80% of Republicans oppose. Among independents, 23% favor; 66% oppose.

Aug 11 – 17, 2009 — Obama’s down — 45% of US voters give Obama good or excellent marks on leadership…

— 3 points off from last month, and
— 19 points off from when O took office in January, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

— 32% of voters see Obama as a poor leader,
— 2 points off from July and
— 16 points off from the week after his inauguration.

Jul 26 – 11, 2009O’s polls down — 29% of US voters “strongly approve” of Obama as President; 40% “strongly disapprove;” netting a -11% Presidential Approval rating, according to today’s Rasmussen daily Presidential Tracking Poll. This is the first time Obama’s ratings have reached negative double digits. Since last Wednesday’s televised healthcare news conference, “strongly approve” is flat, while “strongly disapprove” has risen from 35% on Wednesday to 40% today, 7-26-09.

Jul 24 – 26, 2009Whoa on Healthcare — 71% of Americans favor passage of healthcare reform legislation, but only 41% believe it needs to be done this year, according to a Gallup Poll conducted Thursday night (7-23-09), one day after Obama’s press conference pushing for quick passage. 24% don’t think Congress should pass a healthcare reform law at all.

Jul 17 – 24, 2009 — 50% of voters oppose setting up a government health insurance program, as Obama proposes; 35% support the idea; 15% are undecided, a Rasmussen national survey finds. In mid-June, 41% favored and 41% opposed the idea.

Jul 11 - 17, 2009 — 62% of Americans oppose federal government bailouts for states like California that are experiencing major budget problems; 20% favor bailouts; 19% are unsure, says Rasmussen Reports.

Jun 29 – Jul 11, 2009 — 50% of U.S. voters at least somewhat favor Obama’s health care plan; 45% at least somewhat oppose it, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. While overall numbers favor the plan, those with strong opinions tilt the other way: 24% strongly favor the plan; 34% strongly oppose it.

Jun 21 – 29, 2009 — 44% of Americans say the administration should wait on healthcare reform until the economy improves; 43% move ahead now; 12% are not sure, according to a Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of 10,000 adults nationwide.

Jun 16 – 21, 2009 — 40% of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 35% as moderate, 21% as liberal. This represents a slight increase for US conservatism since ‘08, returning it to ‘04 levels, reports Gallup Poll surveys.

Jun 11 – 16, 2009 — A trust shift: 45% of Americans polled now trust the GOP more to handle the nation’s economic affairs; 39% trust Dems more. This is a two-year first, and a shift from May ‘09, when Dems led 44% to 43%, says Rasmussen Reports.

Jun 4 – 11, 2009 — See no peace: As to a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel within the next decade — 74% of US voters say it’s unlikely — 27% say not likely at all — 17% say somewhat likely — 4% believe very Likely. So says a Rasmussen Reports telephone survey released today (5-4-09).

Jun 3 – 4, 2009 — Digital impact: “What impact has digital media had on your company’s communications strategy?” 54% say a “great impact;” 46% say “fair;” and 10% say “not much.” This from Heyman Associates’ research.

May 3 1 – Jun 3, 2009 — 67% of US voters oppose the Administration’s GM bail-out plan; 21% approve, according to a Rasmussen poll released 5-31-09. The plan would provide GM with $30 billion more, and give 70% ownership to the government.

May 24 – 31, 2009 — 24% of US voters favor federal bailouts of states *like* California that are in financial trouble; 59% oppose. For California *specifically,* again 24% support federal loan guarantees. 66 oppose, says the Rasmussen Report of 5-22-09.

May 22 – 24, 2009 — In 77% of voters say the problem is US politicians’ unwillingness to control government spending. Just 14% say the problem is voters’ unwillingness to pay taxes, Rasmussen Reports today [5-22-09] on its national phone survey.

May 20 – 22, 2009 — In California, 60% statewide voted against …increased taxes …more state borrowing and spending …a higher budget for education. We reported a few days ago that media polls indicated a potential 73% negative vote.

May 14 – 20, 2009 — 73% of California voters oppose raising state income taxes to eliminate the budget deficit; 69% oppose raising state sales taxes — Rasmussen 5-14-09. In the most liberal of states, does this presage national sentiment?

May 11 – 14, 2009 — Web search and ad giant Google has found the edge of Web ad effectiveness, it seems. The big G is buying cable and network TV time to help launch Chrome, the company’s new browser. Traditional media still has a role to serve!
